mulit-functional

This is going to be a brief post because I don't really want to dwell on this issue but I feel compelled to comment on it.

I have been "advised" recently that I should use my blog for art purposes and leave my personal life out of it since "that's not the purpose of having a blog in the first place."

First let me clarify that I'm not angry about this email and, to be honest, its not the first one of its nature. Everyone is entitled to their opinon but I am not likely to change my blogging habits and here are a few reasons why:

1) I (unfortunately) am not a full time artist and therefore often have much to yak at you about that has absolutely nothing to do with art. In fact, I've even heard tell that full-time artists occasionally *gasp* don't make art and might have something else to talk about.

2) Its my blog. Enough said.

3) I don't believe I have ever threatened, coerced, bribed or otherwise forced anyone to read my blog. (Well, maybe Leann but she's easily swayable - all you need is beer to offer - so she doesn't count.) If you find me boring or repetitive or just generally uninteresting, you don't have to read it. Won't hurt my feelings.

4) I have come to view the blog as a socially acceptable means of talking to myself. I'm not really sure how many people are reading, I have some subscribers and for the most part, I will let my brain information leak about whatever happens to be on my mind. (Although I do tend to clean some thoughts up considerably prior to putting them here. Again, potty mouth is a side effect of working with all men.)

5) Life's too short to worry about this stuff.

So I'm not going to. I hope you all who read my blog find it amusing, and if you don't, that's okay too. There are about a billion blogs out there and its likely that you will find several that meet your needs if this one does not. This particular one will remain multi-functional and discuss whatever happens to be going on in my life - including art.

Happy blogging, everyone.

It's a great blog, and those of us who know you would never tell you what to write about. We like reading what you write, that's why we read it. And we value our health.

You just keep doing what you do. Too many people have too much time on their hands and need to go volunteer at a soup kitchen or something.

I look forward to your writings, and don't want you to change a thing.

If they don't like it they don't have to read it. I tried to make my blog all about my art. People didn't respond. When I have a personal rant, people tend to respond. Seems like people want to read about something other than making art. I tend to get tired of frequent kitty photos or constant garden photos or reading how many times one has yakked with the stomach flu. Otherwise, if I'm interested in one's art, I'm probably interested in their life, also. If not, I use the back arrow button and get out. Far easier than complaining.

I just thought to myself 2 days ago, "why are you reading this nonsense?" Well, cuz I want to!
I met you at Scrappy Chic, stalked you in Chicago, and just generally enjoy the banter.

Keep it up!

How bizarre! If a person doesn't like what's on TV, they turn it off. If a person doesn't agree with your site, they needn't tune in as often, but how rude to criticize what is unarguably yours. That's so wrong, and mean spirited. I'm sorry you recvd such garbage.

Eh, I would ignore the critics. My xanga blog is mostly about fiber art, but my life creeps in there too, because like you I work full-time for a living. I can't believe the gall of some people who feel compelled to direct other people's lives. Sheesh. Yeah, they have too much time on their hands! Wonder if they even have blogs of their own......

It's beyond my scope of comprehension why anyone would "advise" you about what to put on YOUR blog! I know that anger is a waste of energy, but I admire you for not being angry. Like others have said, let the reader who is unhappy just click away from your site! Idiot. I'm not so good about channeling my anger... sorry.

And the funniest thing is that the "advisor" doesn't seem to understand that blogs, by their very nature, can be whatever the blogger wants it to be. So your "advisor" cannot be called very smart. And who listens to people who aren't smart?

Love your blog, love the rambling, love the art part, love the personal part... love the doggy part!!!

Keep on keepin' on, let the advisors hit the road...

Just my humble opinion...

To heck with 'em!
Even when you rant, you're FUNNY.
You have a great sense of humor, which is probably what's keeping the doors shut at the local insane asylum (given the insane work situation). I enjoy reading your stuff. BTW, I am working on my BT piece; it's maybe half done, but those OTHER deadines are even sooner. Hang in there.
