does artist = introvert?

For the longest time, this was my profile picture on Facebook and here on my blog:

Mostly because I'm an introvert. (I did finally replace it with this one.)

I find myself in a lot of situations between the day job and my art activities that need me to not be. So I've learned to shove the introvert aside so I can do the things I love.

But deep down? I love the quiet and the stillness and getting lost in my own thoughts. I crave it in fact. I have to balance the extrovert Lynn with my true nature. I've loved to learn them both for the things that they give me.

But I've gotten to wondering - are most artists introverts? I see so many books and coaches and art business blogs focusing on how to get out of your studio and move among the more naturally extroverted kind.

What do you think? Do you think it goes with the territory?

well i would say yes, i HAVE to be friendly during work and talk..blah blah blah. you know me and how i am with people. however, the real me is the introvert who wants her own time and solitude. i used to be extremely shy and afraid. retail broke me. but still i would adore the solitude.

Not me..I'm an extrovert...but I also enjoy alone time. I don't think the two are necessarily mutually exclusive.

I could happily be a hermit as long as I had my fabric and fun stuff!

I'm more introspective than I am an introvert.
I also need quiet and solitude at peak creative moments because I am unable to naturally filter incoming information clutter around me.

Goodness, no! Goddess of Flame===Extrovert! Altho I do agree with Lisa, there are times that I need quiet to focus on a project. I need the contact with people!!!

Well, I certainly love my quiet times..and percentage wise have more than the non-quiet, by choice, but I do not really consider myself an introvert, nor are many of the artistic people I know...In fact most are very social but, like me, need their "ME" times in order to create! So on the average, I suppose there are as many introverts as extroverts as in any other walk of life.
