Good News Giveaway - April's winner & May's artwork!

Peaceful Self
6"x6"
Materials: wool, faux bird nest, faux bird egg, faux vine, hand stitching, word beads

Today is the day!
I've been giddy and excited to get the second round of the Good News Giveaways going, I was so enthralled with all the wonderful comments the first post generated.

But first the really fun part - announcing the winner of the April Good News Giveaway micro mini art quilt!

I used the Random Number Generator and it pulled number 28 - which makes Elaine M. the winner!

Mary's good news was: Good news and humor are contagious, and I am soooo glad to be alive to share. The source of my happiness is recovering from a severe car accident during a white-out snowstorm 2 1/2 months ago in which my seat belt caused a giant hematoma and internal bleeding to my left breast. All during my trauma hospitalization and subsequent treatments, I have depended on humor (and prayer) to get me through. Instead of tears, I played the "glad game" which made me feel better and certainly helped the doctors, nurses and techs in their care of me. They won't forget my soccer ball size boob and I won't forget their care and smiles.

Congratulations Elaine! Email me at FibraArtysta@earthlink.net with your mailing address and your little art quilt will be on its happy way to you!

Peaceful Self (shown at the top of this post) is the next micro mini art quilt that is up for grabs as the May Good News Giveaway. I was inspired by spring and the smell of the earth as its waking up again.

So as before, the rules are simple, but here they are again as a recap:

Leave a comment on this post to be in the running BUT there are five golden rules you must follow concerning your comment in order to be included in the drawing:

1) Leave a comment about someone or something that is positive and helping to make your life or someone else's life less stressful.

2) NO ANONYMOUS COMMENTS. You have to use at least your first name and the first letter of your last initial. Why? Because there is no way to identify you if you don't. If you leave an anonymous comment, it won't go into the drawing.

3) Keep your comments to no more then five sentences. We don't want to torture Blogger with excessively long comments. (It can be cranky so let's not try.)

4) Comments must appear on this post. I'm a pretty regular blogger so take a gander at my sidebar on the right. You'll see a link list to each post that is a Good News Giveaway so if you don't come to visit on the exact day a new drawing goes up, you can find it easily and still leave a comment.

5) You can't post the same comment twice. The goal of this is to find things in our lives that are positive and make us smile, so look hard if you have to but find it.

You'll have until the last day of each month to comment to win that month's giveaway. The winner will be announced when the next month's giveaway goes up on the 5th of the new month along with the winning comment so everyone can enjoy it.

Thanks to everyone who commented last month and I hope to hear some more good news this month so get commenting!

My good news is that a friend called today with inside scoop on a new job opening at his company that is almost identical to the management position my huband just lost due to downsizing and the economy. Even if it doesn't end up his, it is a boost of encouragement to know there are new jobs out there...our area has been hard hit with large numbers of lay-offs in recent weeks.

First off, I LOVE this piece. It so successfully invokes it's name. And it fits so well with what is happening in my life. Liz and Roger have built us a glorious, beautiful home into which we are moving on Saturday. My soul feels good; I'm going home.

Conversation at work today (I work with special needs teenagers): "Miss, I went fishing at the weekend. It was brilliant!"
"Why was it brilliant, Joe?"..... "We didn't catch anything!" Joe's reaoning made me smile for the rest of the school day.

No matter what my mood, or difficulty, It's Nature that always sets me right. My partner was in a bad car accident a few days ago, and there's so much UG! going on... yet as I peek out the windows, or drive my errands, the spring blooms always cheer me all up. The grape hyacinths, the violets, squills and periwinkles/myrtle flowers-- all in blues & purples, so great!-- remind me that there's more to life than the bad economy, our bad backs, etc. Nature, art, peace, and spirituality go hand-in-hand for me!

I planted some sunflower seeds this weekend and I can't wait to sit at the computer and look at them through the window over the summer. Spring has finally arrived in Chicago.

Lynn, I love this little piece of art ... good things DO come in small packages!

My good news is that today, at the ripe young age of 60, I applied for my Widow's Benefits from Social Security, and found that they are about 25% higher than I had hoped for! Since my sister has moved in with me in the last 6 months, this little bit of extra cash, although still not a lot, is going to come in very handy. I practically skipped out of the Social Security office! ;^)
Thanks for the opportunity to share my little piece of happiness. And it's so great to read everyone else's "happy notes" too!
cheers,

Like most people, my husband and I are economizing. We aren't going on our annual vacation, and we didn't have money to do the backyard makeover I was hoping for, but with some creativity (and a generous friend, who gifted me her lovely patio furniture), I was able to accomplish everything I wanted to make our backyard into a fresh, inviting space that makes the whole family feel like we're on vacation, even if we can't leave home.

We're going to have a grand-baaaaaaaaaby! Not my first, mind you, but comes after two traumatic birth experiences in the family, so this one's the blessing. We're on Grandparent Alert to jump in the car with suitcases, a rocking chair, things to stitch on, and very full hearts.

I am feeling good today to have participated in Collage Mania. It is good to be inspired by Virginia Spiegel as an artist and human being. It is good to pass along my many blessings.

Over the past three weeks at my small library on the Hoopa Indian Reservation we have given out more than 30# of seed packets to our patrons. Each person was asked to take as many packets as they would plant in their yard with the specific purpose of making our river valley beautiful for our eyes and attractive to bees and butterflies. The smiles of gratitude that shone as each person gathered their favorite varieties and in this time of so little disposable income they were thrilled to be able to beautify their yard and add to the ecosystem of the fruit trees and gardens that provide such bounty for their table and pantry.

After recieving a 50% scholarship to a workshop with Susan Shie this summer and had a very very kind and warm art quilter from the list pay for the remainder of the fee and even the supplies for the class. To know there are people out there in this day and age that are so generous with something that others hold so high on a pedestal that people like me have a hard time attaining extra of is so generous and kind. God bless her and keep her safe :-)

Lynn, this is a wonderful, restful, peace (piece?)ful piece! My good news is the kind folks working at Quarry Hill's Assisted Living unit. They care for mom, always with courtesy and kindness no matter what her mood or manner. As her mind becomes increasingly confused, they still roll with it and are kind and gentle. I so appreciate them... I'd go start raving mad in that job!

Cheers, Sarah

Wow, what inspiring words are on here so far. I'm happy because all my bloodtests and heart tests are done and even though I have a bunch more tests and things to get done. I felt good enough to sew today, I mean really sew as in putting a quilt top together.
Have a Blessed Day!

Recently new to your blog and I have to say I love the work you do. This piece especially is amazing.

I'm a biologist/PhD student and I always try to help other graduate students with their work whenever possible. Unfortunately, often the favor isn't returned. But last night, a student I've helped quite a bit offered to help me for free this summer in a collaborative study I'm doing. I have been stressing about finding a person and not only does this relieve that stress but I'm overwhelmed that she made the offer!

There is an awning over my bedroom window and there is a perpetual nest in the corner of it right outside my window. Different bird families come and go, so it remains occupied throughout the year.
Waking up each morning to the mamas singing and the babies peeping makes me smile. I never get tired of listening to my "roommates". I enjoy them so much!

I had the most wonderful Mother's Day ever! My three children, spouses and four grandchildren came to my house and did yard work for me!! I had knee surgery just before MD and was wondering how I was going to get out there and mow the lawn, plant flowers etc. I didn't need to ask, they just arrived. I am a very lucky woman, proud mom and grandmother!

My good news is our oldest son officially graduated from college yesterday, middle son has brought all his scary D's and F's up to A's and B's, and youngest son got an award for having the most improved assessment test scores in the third grade. Another school year is almost over--yippee!
