Its nearly here!!!! :)

Artist and fundraising genius Virginia Spiegel is about to launch the 2012 Fiberart for a Cause fundraiser. I've talked about it before on the blog so I'll just do a quick recap here but I wanted to put up a big celebratory reminder because it begins tomorrow!

The fundraiser takes place on February 15 and 16

from 10am-3pm central time on each day.

Its out of place, this scene. Where thick white snow and ice should exist, I see a perpetual autumn trapped like a polaroid that someone forgot to shake out all the way. I'm drunk on the colors of the landscape, rich with muddy tired tones that whisper ideas to me.

I have found the intense interest in journals this past year pretty interesting. It would seem that everyone is looking at them in a new light.

Its my contributor's copy.

That means I'm in there. And it feels surreal somehow.

When I made the decision to take my art to the next level and try to establish a career, my expectations were not very fancy. I thought I would write a few articles and sell a couple of thermofax screens and see where things would go from there.

Create Your Own Free-Form Quilts by Rayna Gillman

I've been a big fan of Rayna Gillman ever since I discovered her first book in 2008. In that one she makes surface design real, easy for the everyday average artist. She does the same thing again in her latest book, Create Your Own Free-Form Quilts.

Temporary has been on my mind, watching time moves without regard for emotion. The only objective is to continue on, keep trucking, keep the wheel turning. It isn't tangible, can't be held in the hand but it can be studied and observed.

Cold and damp seems to linger everywhere. My feet have landed on these blankets before in an effort to find warmth. The season feels late somehow, with only rain showing so far. There's a sense of tired anticipation, a quiet vigil that is resigned to the snow that can't be far away.

Write down every single thing you love about being an artist.

Make the list huge, silly, serious - whatever you think best suits your artistic style. When you're done, put it up in your studio so you can remember how awesome it is to be a creative spirit.

Color and abstract design lessons are everywhere. My eye traces the slow easy curves of the branches, lingers on the earthy greyness and shadow. I can loose myself in studying these small mazes, beautiful and still in its quietness.

This weekend saw me cleaning the studio. Again. For the billionth time.

Its okay, I've come to accept that I will never be done with the task. (Although I secretly hope someday that someone will start an art studio cleaning service and all I'll have to do is hand over some money and they sweep in like fairies and make everything sparkly. Or get fairies. I'm good with either one.)

Inside the Creative Studio

by Cate Coulacos Prato

I picked up "Inside the Creative Studio" recently and I've been slowly working my way through it and thought maybe we'd have a little chat about what a good book it is. Because I'm all about books and this one is a darn good one.

I was intrigued because I have a thing for seeing inside other people's creative spaces. Creative Pause Prompt #10:

Take a look through your UFO (Unfinished Objects) pile and pick one out.

Don't assess the entire pile (should you happen to have more then one), overwhelm is your enemy. Put it on your design board or out in your workroom and consider bringing it back to life.

What would you do different with it? Why don't you like it? Why did you stop working on it?

Wowsers. How time flies. Especially when you're putting your feet all over things.

Wait, that sounded wrong. But you know what I mean. Five years. Really? I can't believe that its been that long that Where I Stand Sunday has been trucking along.

If you weren't there at the very beginning back in 2007, here is the original post that started it all.

And the very first photo and caption:
